The Rockies Released Their City Connect Jerseys Today And Turns Out They're Actually Just The Colorado License Plate
Pretty dramatic intro video but compelling nonetheless:
And of course, the full GUIDE
Page one right off the bat:
"The design reflects a classic green-mountain Colorado license plate."
Or in other words:
"We made this uniforms then someone pointed out last second that they're oddly similar to the OG license plate so we need to acknolwedge that or we will get roasted."
I've seen it a thousand times. The alternative is that the Rockies and Nike sincerely collaborated and their #1 option was to actually rip the license plate and say that the license plate is their big source of inspiration. I know we're all stupid but nobody's that stupid.
And don't think I'm trying to wage war here. I don't have any problem with the Rockies or Nike or anybody with this. I'm just saying it's very obvious someone pointed out this mistake too far in the process and so they decided to make an IG post to casually explain it was all part of the plan.
To me the reality is that this is just an absurd city connect jersey. Green is the environmental statement. The marijuana and the hiking and all that shit. That's why you go green with the Colorado jerseys. Not because your old license plate was green and Rockies fans drive to the game and you want to recognize that. Get outta here with that nonsense.
Ultimately just say you wanted to do some preposterous jerseys. Tell me the EastBay catalogue was running a 50% discount on wholesale green uniforms. Say the intern got too high and filled out the order slip or that you wanted something to closely resembled the Larry Walker Turn Ahead The Clock jerseys without the same color scheme:
Literally tell me about anything but the license plate and you'll get my full endorsement. That's a very simple trade off and even saying that, I still like the uniforms. The white belts are sweet. The bullpen jackets are a Must Have for any fall collection. The hats and details all work together, even with the deep evergreen base. It's just so bad that it's good. Like a travel baseball team where the dad running it really really likes the color green. That's the vibe you get here and I don't hate any of it. Just ditch the license plate inspiration and own up to an inconvenient mistake.
Also, Kris Bryant will look perfect in this uniform as he does in most uniforms.
