Al Pacino Turns 82 Today. Hot Take- Al Pacino's Monologue In Scent of A Woman Is Better Than His Monologue In Any Given Sunday
No fancy intro, I'll get right to the point. Al Pacino's monologue in Scent Of A Woman is the best monologue of his career.
If you are unfamiliar with this movie it's severely underrated. It's a kid at a prep school over Thanksgiving weekend who gets caught up in a tough situation where he has to rat on his friends, or face punishment. He meets a man who guides him through the weekend and ultimately this dilemma he is in.
Al Pacino's final speech is a GEM. He stands up for this kid (Charlie) while undressing the old guard of this uppity prep school for trying to shift the blame to Charlie instead of the 2nd and 3rd generation rich kids that were really the ones who fucked up.
It's an all timer. It's Pacino dialed up to a 15 which is when he's at his best. The one liners connect on so many levels
"Well, gentlemen, when the shit hits the fan some guys run and some guys stay."
"There was a time I could see. And I have seen boys like these, younger than these, their arms torn out, their legs ripped off. But there isn't nothin' like the sight of an amputated spirit; there is no prosthetic for that."
"Well, when the bough breaks, the cradle will fall."
The stance Pacino takes to back this working class kid , who is out of water in a school of preppy kids hand delivered their lives is something. Charlie's only hope is Pacino and boy does he deliver.
I understand everyone has a love for Any Given Sunday, but this speech is flat out better. And I love his speech in Any Given Sunday. But facts are facts and this one is better.

I look forward to all your upset mentions on my timeline. Happy Monday.
