This is what baseball is all about. Boys playing ball, beer, and hot dogs. This umpire decided to take full advantage of the last two. As is tradition, this happened at the Savannah Bananas game down in Florida and it's just another thing that sets their games apart from normal baseball. MLB umpires are way too focused on how to make the game about them. Banana's umpires are figuring out who has a hot dog they can munch on through the screen before an inning and I love it. This guy marches over, they shove a hot dog through the fence, he grabs a quick bite, some beer to wash it down, and heads back to call balls and strikes. Maybe the most American thing I've ever seen. This video is perfect because what food is better suited to be eaten through a screen than a hot dog? It fits through the holes perfectly, you get the meat, the ketchup, the mustard, the onions, the relish, and the bun all in one bite. You can't do this with a hamburger. You can't really do this with pizza after the first few bites, a hot dog is the perfect meal mid-game for an umpire. And washing it down with the beer was a must. Hope to see more out of this guy in the future, make a name for himself as the "hot dog and beer umpire". Joe West would have been an umpire forever if he was allowed to do this.
