MOVIES

1. Taxi Driver - 91/100 - Netflix:

A mentally unstable Vietnam War veteran works as a night-time taxi driver in New York City where the perceived decadence and sleaze feed his urge for violent action, attempting to save a preadolescent prostitute in the process.
It is one of the all time classics for a reason. It's an awesome dive into a psychopaths mind with plenty of iconic moments, lines and more.

2. The Life of Brian - 96/100 - Netflix:

Brian Cohen is an average young Jewish man, but through a series of ridiculous events, he gains a reputation as the Messiah. When he's not dodging his followers or being scolded by his shrill mother, the hapless Brian has to contend with the pompous Pontius Pilate and acronym-obsessed members of a separatist movement. Rife with Monty Python's signature absurdity, the tale finds Brian's life paralleling Biblical lore, albeit with many more laughs.

When it comes to Monty Python, everyone always thinks of the Holy Grail and for good reason. That is an incredibly good comedy classic! But so is The Life of Brian! It is under-appreciated because it stands next to the titan that is The Holy Grail, but it deserves plenty of love too. Fun fact from this movie, there were religious boycotts/demonstrations in the UK because Michael Palin refers to Jesus as a "Bloody do-gooder" in the movie.

3. The Florida Project - 94/100 - Netflix:

The story of a precocious six year-old and her ragtag group of friends whose summer break is filled with childhood wonder, possibility and a sense of adventure while the adults around them struggle with hard times.

This movie is from Sean Baker who also made the extremely good 'Red Rocket' from this year. It's dirty, gritty and dives into a part of American life that a lot of us aren't familiar with. Well worth the watch.

4.  The Outlaw Josey Wales - 85 - HBO Max

After avenging his family's brutal murder, Wales is pursued by a pack of soldiers. He prefers to travel alone, but ragtag outcasts are drawn to him - and Wales can't bring himself to leave them unprotected.

One of the OG great westerns but the GOAT of the genre himself, Clint Eastwood.

5. Police Story - 94/100 - HBO Max:

A special agent assigned to protect a wealthy business magnate. However, when the businessman is kidnapped in a daring ambush, he teams up with a seasoned detective to crack the case. But soon he discovers the case isn't that simple.

If you are looking for a great action movie featuring fantastic action, car chases and stunts then look no further. This Jackie Chan movie is batshit crazy and will have you yelling "Oh shit!!!" throughout. Watch this

6. Austin Powers 1 83/100 - HBO Max:

As a swingin' fashion photographer by day and a groovy British superagent by night, Austin Powers is the '60s' most shagadelic spy, baby! But can he stop megalomaniac Dr. Evil after the bald villain freezes himself and unthaws in the '90s? With the help of sexy sidekick Vanessa Kensington, he just might.

I just watched the finale of 'Pam & Tommy' and they make a reference to how Pam Anderson almost got the role that went to Elizabeth Hurley. It might be a little outdated, but there are plenty of timelessly funny moments.

 7. Fresh - 89/100 - Hulu:

Frustrated by scrolling dating apps only to end up on lame, tedious dates, Noa takes a chance by giving her number to the awkwardly charming Steve after a produce-section meet-cute at the grocery store.

This is a new thriller starring Sebastian Stan and it fucking rules. It's a simple horror movie that isn't too bloody but kinda gross. Stan crushes it and it will definitely entertain you if nothing else.

8. Love & Monsters - 86/100 - Hulu:

Seven years after the Monsterpocalypse, Joel Dawson, along with the rest of humanity, has been living underground ever since giant creatures took control of the land. After reconnecting over radio with his high school girlfriend Aimee, who is now 80 miles away at a coastal colony, Joel begins to fall for her again. As Joel realizes that there’s nothing left for him underground, he decides against all logic to venture out to Aimee, despite all the dangerous monsters that stand in his way.

This movie flew under the radar a couple of years ago but I really liked it. It's sort of like 'Zombieland' but with animal monsters instead of zombies. Plenty of heart, plenty of action.

9. Liar Liar - 83/100 - Prime Video:

Fletcher Reede is a fast-talking attorney and habitual liar. When his son Max blows out the candles on his fifth birthday he has just one wish - that his dad will stop lying for 24 hours. When Max's wish comes true, Fletcher discovers that his mouth has suddenly become his biggest liability.

This is sneakily one of the better Jim Carrey movies if you ask me. Here is my top grouping for him,

10. Inside Llewyn Davis - 95/100 - Prime Video:

In Greenwich Village in the early 1960s, gifted but volatile folk musician Llewyn Davis struggles with money, relationships, and his uncertain future following the suicide of his singing partner.

If you like music then I think you will truly enjoy this movie. Actually, I don't even think that is a qualifier to liking it. It's simply a fantastic drama with a monster performance from Oscar Isaac

SHOWS

1. The Last Kingdom S5 - Netflix: This is one of my favorite shows running right now and they just released their final season. It's such a hard show to explain what's good about it, because I don't actually think it is that good. It's probably the best show I've ever seen that isn't actually good. Basically, it's fun Viking action that is more lighthearted structured than the History channel show.

2. Peaky Blinders - Netflix: The new season is hitting Netflix June 10th for those of you that can't VPN into England. Why not catch up on one of the best shows from the last few years.

3. Vikings: Valhalla - Netflix: This spinoff is pretty good so far. I like the cast, the action is cool and it's kinda nice to get away from the Lothbrok family.
