The Yankees Look To Defend America This Weekend

Somehow in the last week, a lot of people have come under the idea that the first place Yankees are chasing the second place Blue Jays. Everyone throwing their support behind Toronto. Not only is this ridiculous, it’s Un-American. Yes the Blue Jays offense is exciting, but so are explosions and that doesn’t make us cheer for Isis because this is America and we cheer for our guys. So as you look to back our cousins to the north, remember that involves the World Series trophy leaving the country.

As for this series, the Blue Jays are red hot, winning 8 of their last 10 and 5 in a row. That sounds like something we should be afraid of except for the fact that the Yankees have scored the 2nd most runs in the league and David Price can only pitch one game this weekend. Last weekend, the White Sox were hot and the Yankees cooled them down. Before the break, the Red Sox were hot and the Yankees ended their season. Back in April, the Mets won a million games in a row before coming to the Bronx to get beat. Why would this weekend be different?

Starting tonight with RA Dickey isn’t the best news, but after seeing a great knuckleball just 2 days ago should set the lineup up for success to get the first game out of the way. After that we face Price, who could shut us out or give up 7 runs in 2 innings only to throw a temper tantrum. The Yankees have owned him earlier in the year, so this isn’t a lie down and die game. Then we wrap up the series with Tanaka on the mound, and we all know what happens there. (Its 2 earned over 7 for anyone who doesn’t know.)

So when you look at it on a game by game basis and not getting caught up in a wining streak, the Yankees could sweep this series but definitely should win it. This team hasn’t lost a series since June and if that keeps going thats really all it takes to win a pennant.  A sweep would be nice but a series is just enough. And just enough is the American way.
