Brad Marchand Gets Six Games For Punching Then High-Sticking Penguins Goalie Tristan Jarry
The Bruins will be without their best player this season for the next two weeks as Brad Marchand was suspended for six games after he punched then high-sticked Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry last night at TD Garden. He got whacked with a six-pack due to his repeat offender status moreso than the infractions. This will be his 8th suspension and they've cost him some dough over the years.
Marchy gon' Marchy, I guess. The punch is one thing---guys get punched in the NHL---but the little whisker tickle with his twig was an unneccesary cherry on top that no doubt increased the penalty. His 21-28--49 in 39 games played leads the team and he'll be sorely missed with the Hurricanes, Rangers, and Avalanche among those on tap.
Fortunately, the Bs have a healthy nine-point lead over Detroit for the second Wild Card with three games in hand. The Bs will also be without Patrice Bergeron for at least the next game after he was injured after this collision with Sidney Crosby.
Yuck. Given his history, you definitely hate to see Bergy hit his head and immediately leave the ice. But with the sizable lead, the Bs can afford to take their time putting him back in the line-up. Get well, Bergy.
