Fans Of '90s Baseball Rejoice! MLB Has Stopped Testing It's Players For Steroids For The First Time In Almost 20 Years Thanks To The Lockout
Kids of the '90s, we've got some good news for you! Remember how awesome the summer of 1998 was? Well we may get something like that to begin spring training. It is being reported that MLB has stopped steroid testing on it's players for the first time in almost 20 years. Their sports drug agreement expired when the CBA did on December 2nd, but it was never formally announced. So you may be wondering what it means.
Basically it's the Wild Wild West for MLB players right now and they aren't being tested for steroids. Soooooo if a player just happens to run some cycles he can't be tested for them. Would be a real shame if they just kept letting them do it and we got the Summer of '98 again. Now you'd expect that when (IF) the season starts back up they will come to a new agreement on this because they have to have steroid testing in baseball, they just have to. But it is a laugh out loud funny headline to read after just 2 weeks ago the best pitcher we've ever seen and the best baseball player we've ever seen were left out of the Hall of Fame due to alleged steroid use. Now they openly say they aren't testing for it.
Again, you would think that a new agreement would be reached before when the new CBA is put into place and they will begin testing again, but until that happens there is nothing stopping any players from doing steroids since they aren't being tested. I've never done steroids, but my guess is there is a way to get some quick cycles going? If you started doing them in mid-December, throughout the winter, I'm guessing you could do some cycles and have it be out of your system in time for Spring Training whenever that starts?
Travis Tygart, chief executive officer of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency was quoted saying the following:
“You could easily do what the cyclists were doing even in a good testing program, which was microdosing of testosterone,” Tygart said. “You can do testosterone gels or oral pills that could be out of your system and you can do more in maybe weeks.”
I mean there you have it. You can pull a Lance Armstrong, get some microdosing of testosterone going, some oral pills that leave your system more and keep it going while the lockout continues. My guess is we may see some guys have a MONSTER beginning of Spring Training. Wouldn't be too suspicious, would it? Another scandal on top of Manfred's resume would be fantastic.
