The First Trailer For The New Halo Series Dropped And It Is GLORIOUS
Halo is set to follow "an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant. Halo will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future."
Man, this is basically everything I could have wished for. Great effects, a solid practical:CGI ratio and a good setup for the show. Not to mention Schreiber's Master Chief impression is not bad at all. Like you see in the synopsis above, they're going to focus on the personal stories and not just make this into a brainless action series with no soul.
In case you weren't aware, this series stars Pablo Schreiber(Den of Thieves, OITNB) as the big boss himself, Natascha McElhone(Californication) as his creator Dr. Halsey, Bokeem Woodbine(Fargo) as another Spartan II that is left disfigured by the augmentation process, and most importantly, it has Jen Taylor returning as the voice of Cortana.
Anyone who knows me knows that I am a big time Halo guy. Not just the type that spent endless hours teabagging people on Valhalla and fighting elephant wars on Sandtrap either. The type of Halo guy that beat every campaign on brutal and read 7 Halo books. I really love the lore of the game and have ALWAYS been pissed off that it never got a true day on screen outside of that horrible Forward Unto Dawn garbage. For those of you that don't know a ton about Halo outside of a base knowledge, here is a quick rundown about the SPARTAN II program and why it should make for great television.
All of the SPARTAN-II soldiers were stolen as children by the Halo-universe's version of the CIA and replaced with "flash clones", which were clones designed to die not long after they were put in place. The children were put through an insane training program that climaxed with an "augmentation process". This included grafting metal onto their bones, injecting shit into their muscles, putting an HGH pellet into their thyroid, performing surgery on their eyes and brains to increase reflexes. Only 33 of the 75 children that went through these augmentations survived.
All that was done to them not so that they could fight aliens. It was so they could fight humans! Rebels in the outer colonies! They were basically super soldiers designed to be the commando fist of the space gestapo. To me, the origin of the SPARTAN-II program and their early missions are just as interesting as all the alien fighting they do in the lions share of the franchise. But this will obviously be taking place during the covenant conflict with what looks to be a little dip into the flood as well.
