Comoros, A Tiny Country Making A Cinderella Run At AFCON, Has To Play In The Round Of 16 Today Without A Goalie
What the fuck man? So for those of you unaware, AFCON is going on. Pretty self explanatory here where it's the African Cup of Nations for soccer. Similar to Euros, etc. Anywho, Comoros is the story of this tournament. They somehow advanced from a group where Ghana was eliminated. They are basically the UMBC of this thing. Just some quick research (Wikipedia), Comoros has a population of just 850,000. They never qualified for AFCON before this year. Shit, they weren't even part of FIFA until 2006.
So all that out there they now have to play the Round of 16 game against Cameroon without a real goalie. Some bullshit there. Ali Ahamada tested negative for COVID but according to rules there he has to quarantine for 5 days. So he's out. There's only one thing left to do and that's go 11 players and 0 goalies. I mean don't even put someone back there at all times. Sure, designate a goalie so he can use his hands and all. But just bring him out. What do you have to lose?
At the minimum we'd get some entertainment out of it. Just consistent pressure like VCU's HAVOC. Go all out and try to shock Cameroon in the first half. Just fly around and see what happens. And yeah, I'm fully aware how much bullshit it is that he has to miss the game. But you gotta adapt on the fly if you want to win AFCON. You already shocked Ghana, now do something we've never seen before. It's also where I wish there were no offsides in soccer. I'd love to see Comoros cherry pick the entire time.
