Alabama Suffocates Cincinnati En Route to Another National Championship Game
Is everyone happy now? We let a Group of Five team into the College Football Playoff and Cincinnati proved what anyone with a brain has known for years: it did not belong on that field. Alabama cruised to another berth in the CFP National Championship as it took down the Bearcats 27-6.
Even though Bama's 27 points might not look all that impressive, the Tide didn't really need to do anything crazy. Brian Robinson ran all over Cincy's defense at will, rushing for 204 yards on 26 carries. The Tide just squeezed the life out of the Bearcats on every possession. Cincinnati managed a field goal on its opening drive of each half, but that was it.
I'm sure this opinion is still unpopular, but I absolutely do not need to see a Group of Five team in the Playoff ever again. I certainly don't need to see another four or eight teams in this thing when the semi-finals are blowouts every year already, but that's another discussion for another day. There isn't a G5 team in the country that can compete with a team like Alabama.
So now the Tide will await the winner of Michigan and Georgia to determine who will challenge the perennial title favorites in Indianapolis a week from Monday. Anyone who wrote off this iteration of the Saban Robot Dynasty is eating quite a bit of crow right now. They're back where they seem to be every season.
