RIDLEY PARK – An underage drinking party was seemingly all fun and games until police were tipped off by some of the alleged revelers’ own postings on Instagram and Facebook, resulting in the arrest of 94 individuals. Acting Police Chief John T. Morris said Monday that an estimated 200 people attended the July 27 party at an unchaperoned residence in the 100 block of West Rodgers Street. “It looks like the parents were out of town and he took advantage,” Morris said of the host. The host and 93 of his guests can expect to receive a citation in the mail for disorderly conduct stemming from their presence at the party, according to Morris. The host will be additionally cited with criminal mischief because of damage to a neighbor’s property when some of his guests were fleeing from police, he said. “They jumped out a second-floor window on to the neighbor’s retractable awning,” Morris said. The neighbor has since provided police an estimate of awning damages at about $2,500. “Ridley Park police did not receive a single call in reference to this large, underage party in a twin home on a dead-end street. The offenders themselves alerted police to their actions,” Morris said. He credited an “alert and proactive” officer from neighboring Prospect Park Police Department for providing the information leading to the big bust. Morris said Prospect Park Officer John Shemeluk learned through social media that the party was dubbed “Beer Olympics,” and it was for students and alumni of the Ridley and Interboro school districts. When Shemeluk investigated further and learned the venue was in Ridley Park, Morris said he notified the Ridley Park officers on duty, Cpl. James Nasella and Officer Marc Hanley. “No two officers could handle an event of this size without assistance,” said Morris. Police from surrounding areas including Prospect Park, Ridley Township, Eddystone, Norwood, Glenolden and Tinicum provided backup. The Collingdale Police Department offered use of its vans. Police raided the house about 11:15 p.m. According to Morris, the 94 who were arrested were either inside the house or on the property when police arrived. They were all released that night to parents or guardians, with charges pending. Morris said he was told that 17 cases of beer, Natural Light, were confiscated. The decision to charge the alleged offenders with disorderly conduct was left to the discretion of the arresting officers at the scene, Morris said. All those cited are facing a $200 fine, plus court costs.

94 drunk Delco high school kids in one spot got pinched? How does that happen? The most surprising thing is the party was put to bed civilly. The fact everyone didn’t pull a Jumunji stampede out of there is the shocker of the century. And for the sake of Delco pride there better have been at least 20 cases crushed already before the fuzz dropped in on the party. Let’s say they had 30 packs of Natty which amounts to 510 beers. For 94 people that’s only 5.4 LIGHT beers a young degenerate for a Beer Olympics. Come on. This is Ridley and Interboro*, people. Pick up the slack with the quantity or become true to Delco form and go full Natty Ice. That’ll put the stench of despair back where it belongs. Also wouldn’t surprise me if there were 120 people at this party with 25 or so being stud athletes that just got “fined” and it was never spoken about again. You do what you gotta do to stay atop those Philly Inquirer power rankings.

*Dropped a touchdown pass at Interboro that cost us a game senior year and I literally still have nightmares about it once a damn month. That or a dream I’m still playing ball but I either oversleep the game or can’t find my cleats/helmet. Damn you Glory Days for haunting the rest of my life.

Obligatory (Podcast about some Stand Up Comedy life with these guys finally coming this week, Good Lord willing):
