John Daly Says He Wants To Be Ryder Cup Captain And It's His Best Idea Yet

CBS Sports- John Daly never made a US Ryder Cup team, but that doesn’t stop him from having the dream of being selected as captain one day. Daly spoke with reporters at the Paul Lawrie Match Play event on the European Tour this week, and offered up what his approach would be if he were to be selected as captain. “Hopefully I would one day be a captain, it would be fun,” said Daly. “I don’t know if I fit the mold. I don’t know if I fit what the PGA of America would want. All I know is my team, if I was a captain, we’d have a blast. I’d make sure they had a blast. You don’t want to wear a tie, don’t wear a tie. Have fun. It’s supposed to be fun.” Daly’s “have fun” concept is something that he feels the US Ryder Cup team has been lacking. Daly opened up more about what he felt were the biggest problems with the United States’ approach to the Ryder Cup. “I think we just get wrapped up in it,” said Daly. “I think when you’re favored to win so many years like the Americans have been, I think we get uptight. Even the matches that we are getting killed in, we are favored in. “I think we put too much pressure on ourselves. Just go out and play golf. It’s great to play for your country, but it’s still a gentleman’s game at the end.

Yep.  Not even a question that this should happen.  The fact we didn’t think of this sooner is the real tragedy.  I’m not even kidding.  John Daly needs to be the Ryder Cup captain for the Americans and it’s for exactly the reasons he’s saying.  Being captain is about more than picking the right match ups.  How hard can that be really? It’s the other stuff that matters. Ryder Cup teams need chemistry and the USA teams couldn’t have less of it lately.  I’m fucking sick of watching Poulter and his Euro trash buddies spraying champagne all over each other.  I’m not saying it’s Tom Watson’s fault but it’s Tom Watson’s fault. The players HATED Watson because he overthought everything and screwed it up.  Phil Mickelson wanted to kill him.  Not only does Daly need to eventually be the Ryder Cup captain but he needs to be the captain right now.  Davis Love III has already been selected but I don’t give a shit.  Change it and change it now.  Round up that stupid committee or task force or whatever and vote Daly in.  Him “not fitting the mold” of a captain is exactly why he needs to be one.  Imagine the US Ryder Cup team going from Tom Watson to John Daly.  That’d be like going from the most strict curmudgeon teacher you ever had to the most laid back substitute who doesn’t know the curriculum and who let’s you drink whiskey in class.  The team would instantly have more chemistry than the 2014 Gleneagles team. Then imagine this.  The entire 2016 US team showing up to Hazeltine in Daly-inspired American uniforms led by chain-smoking John Daly with a Hooters girl on each arm.  I’m not even sure the Europeans would get off the plane.  Fuck Ian Poulter.
