The Falcons Are Reportedly Set to Stay at No. 4 and Draft Kyle Pitts, Which Is Exactly What They Want You to Think
Question everything.
We are just a little more than 24 hours from the time the Atlanta Falcons will have to decide what to do with the No. 4 pick. Now, the long-rumored selection is Florida's Kyle Pitts, which it appears someone within the Falcons organization wants everyone to think they've settled on drafting.
Now, that very well may end up being the case. Pitts might even be the best overall player in the draft, honestly. I was against getting another offensive weapon with a pick that high at first, but I've slowly talked myself into taking Pitts, if that is what actually ends up happening. He's awesome.
But ask yourself who it benefits if the news comes out the day before the NFL Draft that the Falcons have a plan they like with the No. 4 overall pick. If the perception around the League is that the Falcons know what they want to do and feel good about it, the cost to move into their pick for a team that wants a quarterback just went up. Any news that comes out this week comes out for a reason.
Even if Atlanta's plan right now really is to take Pitts, it still benefits them to say that and let everybody know. Put out even more rumors, I say. Tell the world you love Justin Fields, too. Make the pick as valuable as possible. As much as I have tried to talk myself into Pitts, I'm still staunchly in favor of trading the pick. Find somebody desperate to get one of the quarterbacks that's still available and take every pick they have.
Don't believe anything you hear until names are called on the stage.
