Gordon Bombay Is Back To Drawing Up The Sickest Hockey Plays Ever Created On The Newest Episode Of "Mighty Ducks: Game Changers"
There are a few key moments throughout history that changed the sport of hockey forever. The invention of the curved blade. The birth of Wayne Gretzky. And the creation of The Flying V.
Gordon Bombay's impact on hockey wasn't just felt when the Ducks went on to win a Minnesota State PeeWee Hockey Championship against the Hawks, or a Junior Goodwill Games Gold Medal against Team Iceland, or that exhibition game against the Varsity team at Eden Hall Prep. His impact has continued to be felt for generations as he had essentially sculpted the game into what it has become today with one magical play.
Damn near 30 years have past by now since the inception of the first Flying V, and after this week's episode of "The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers" it looks like Bombay is back to his old ways. He's the hockey version of "A Beautiful Mind". He just sees the game differently than anybody else in the world is capable of. Always knowing how to optimize his players' strengths and weaknesses to their greatest potential. And when the "Don't Bothers" needed a goal the most, it was Bombay who was able to deliver one to them.
It all starts with the idiot who can't even skate pretending to fall on the puck.
All great coaches steal ideas from other great coaches, so we can give Bombay a pass here for pretty much stealing the entire Fumblerooski play from the Little Giants. Because as everyone is trying to get the puck out from this little idiot, Evan is able to sneak away with the puck on the other side of the ice.
Pretty ridiculous that the ref didn't blow this play dead at least 15 seconds earlier but whatever, maybe he had an episode of Melrose Place to get home to watch. And while Evan fools all of the Ducks and gets going on his breakaway, Bombay is able to use this other little idiot to commit some blatant interference under the guise of just being a reckless skater.
Now Evan is on a breakaway. He only has one last Duck to get by. The girl he clearly has a crush on and has been tampering with to get to leave the Ducks and join the Don't Bothers. And somehow out of nowhere, Evan hits a dirty spin move to get by this girl and sauce one in the back of the net for the team's first goal.
Granted, it was to make the score 17-1 but we don't have to talk about that. Because only a madman like Bombay would be able to scheme up a play like that. I mean they don't call him the Minnesota Miracle Man for nothing. And you know what? This play got me to realize something.
I don't think I'm a Ducks fan nearly as much as I'm just a Bombay guy. Because I've spent the first 2 episodes of this show hating this new team for thinking they could ever make me root against the Ducks. But once Bombay gets involved? I'm all in on Bombay taking another group of absolute fucking trash hockey players and turning them into champs. There are 2 things that Bombay does better than anybody else out there. The first is take awful hockey players and turn them into something great. The second is plowing all the moms on the team. The dude is a legend. He just crushes hockey moms, wins championships, got to live the dream as a minor league hockey player for a shift, spends his days at the rink getting drunk, and probably still has the trainer from Team Iceland in his DMs. It was never about the Ducks, it was always about Bombay.
By the way, we also find out that Bombay was forced to resign as the head coach of a college program because he bought a roll of tape for one of his players and that was against NCAA violations. This might be a little oversight from the writers of this show but I feel like all the top tier teams in college hockey probably have a partnership with a tape company, no? Feel like the team should have been decked out in Howie's before Bombay would even need to pick up a roll of clear for that kid. But whatever. Just keep feeding me Bombay and less coach moms.
