What Would Be The Top Selling Barstool Moment If You Could OWN One?

So as we know, NBA TopShots are all the rage right now. You buy a highlight of LeBron dunking for $50k and then later sell it for $100k. It's a great way to make money if you got it. But what is a TopShot? It's an NFT, a non-fungible token. To put it briefly:

CoinDesk - Non-fungible tokens (NFT) are digital assets that represent a wide range of unique tangible and intangible items, from collectible sports cards to virtual real estate and even digital sneakers.

One of the main benefits of owning a digital collectible versus a physical collectible like a Pokemon card or rare minted coin is that each NFT contains distinguishing information that makes it both distinct from any other NFT and easily verifiable. This makes the creation and circulation of fake collectibles pointless because each item can be traced back to the original issuer.

Jonathon Bales explained it best to me- when someone buys something extremely rare, often times you don't even posses the physical copy of it, like the Honus Wagner card. You own it, but it lives in a vault somewhere until it's time to sell it again. Some owners of rare collectibles, art, cards, etc never even see or hold what they bought, because they buy it as an investment.

So that's where TopShot/NFTs get value. We decide something is worth something, so it is. That's what it boils down to. Collectively as a society we have decided TopShots are fun and since they are hard to get, they become more valuable.

But it's not just TopShots. The most expensive NFTs on the market right now are CyberPunks.

What's a CyberPunk? It's exactly what it looks like. You buy some pixels of some punks for 6 figures. And then you own it. That's the entire thing. There's nothing else to it. If you want a zombie wearing an eye patch, it'll cost you $312,609.12. Yes, some people have way too much money, absolutely 100% confirmed.

So what if Barstool got into the NFT game and you could literally purchase and own Barstool's greatest moments/gifs? What would be the top sellers? I don't want to rank them, but here are the first few that came to mind (limit 1 per Barstool personality because obviously Dave is a megastar and his NFTs would be worth 1000000x more than one of me. Remember when Dave was just 1 of 10 people who worked here? Sometimes very weird to think about.)

I'll start with me (because it's my blog so let me have this) just to get it out of the way:

Me: The Flying 69

Way back in 2016 I lifted Asa, spun her around, and Flying 69'd my way into her heart. Someone could own this moment FOREVER. I'll start the bidding at $100,000.

Honorable mention:

Dave: The Super Bowl Drag

I know there are a billion Dave moments, but this is the one for me. This to me was the moment Barstool took the next step. This story was making headlines that night. New York Post, TMZ, etc. This is the Dave rookie card for "new" Barstool in my opinion. Plus, what's better than this?

and

Big Cat: Tummy Time

Not to be too cliche, but this is the one. What else could you even pick? There are some other widely spread Big Cat gif (FIGURE IT OUT being the most notable) but Tummy Time is the number 1 for me.

Honorable mention:

Kevin Clancy: Cone Drill

This might actually be the top seller. This is the one. It's just such a moment. First Bro Show. Hank's first day. There's just so much history behind it and it ending with McShay's shit eating grin. 6 figures easily.

Honorable mention:

It's new but it's so mesmerizing.

Ok now I'm just going to post other moments that would be great NFTs:

Chaps - Actually Bad

The Moron From Mississippi Shove Heard Round The World

INCOMPETANT!

The shower didn't take, find a new slant!

27 Rings

Honestly we could do this forever. I guess this blog more turned into a trip down memory lane. But I wouldn't be shocked if we are selling NFTs by Summer. Start saving your pennies, my friends.
