Fordham's Women's Basketball Team Started A Petition To Let Them Play All Their Games On The Road Because The School Wants To Shut Down Their Season
[Petition] - We are asking Father McShane to allow us to play these final weeks of our season on the road. We have trusted our University and now we are asking you to trust us now. With our backs against the wall, we are asking for Fordham Administration to not walk away from us now. We have an incredibly strong travel plan, Doctor's approvals, and funding plan that we have prepared to make our reality. We have agreed to sign any waiver that removes University liability from our team!
So I saw Tommy tweeting about this last night and felt inclined to get this on the blog. We have an entire team fighting to continue its season after Fordham decided to go on pause for 2 weeks across all athletics. Now it's important to note that Fordham women's basketball team has ZERO cases. They aren't infected with coronavirus right now and obviously the first priority is health concern. That's not exactly a secret. I'm a firm believer in following rules and what's being said, feel like I should say that even though it shouldn't have to be said.
But look at what they are offering here. They are offering to quarantine on the road away from the rest of the student population. They want to play all these games on the road. That's mentally exhausting for a team - just look at Stanford men's team when they were in North Carolina for a few weeks and then played in Santa Cruz because of city rules in Palo Alto. It's also important to note that the team says they've been tested 1,400 times with zero positive tests. They deserve to keep playing their season.
Not only that, but this team is actually good. They are 11-3 overall second in the A-10. They are in contention for an NCAA Tournament bid, something people on every team fight for for 4-5 years. You have a limited time to play college basketball, even with this being a 'free' year of eligibility. Here's hoping the school changes its mind and the girls can finish their season. They deserve it.
