Twitter Forced To Apologize For Having A "Frat Themed" Office Party
SAN FRANCISCO — Twitter has apologized for holding a frat house-themed party, which included a keg and a beer pong table emblazoned with the company logo, at its San Francisco headquarters.
A female Twitter employee brought attention to the happy-hour event by posting on Twitter an image that she then quickly deleted. But the photo had already been spotted by the Global Women in Tech Facebook group.
A person familiar with the matter told Fusion the party was for Twitter’s revenue team.
“This social event organized by one team was in poor taste at best, and not reflective of the culture we are building here at Twitter,” Twitter spokesman Jim Prosser said in a written statement. “We’ve had discussions internally with the organizing team, and they recognize that this theme was ill-chosen.”
Twitter is wrestling with a diversity problem common among major technology companies: Too few women and minorities are represented in its ranks and leadership.
The industry has also been tarnished for creating and encouraging a “brogrammer” culture, a combination of “bro” and “programmer.”
Seven out of 10 employees at Twitter are men, according to diversity data released last year by Twitter. Nine out of 10 technical employees are men.

Wow. I know I always make fun of the Social Justice Warriors who get fired up at every little indiscretion they come across on the internet, but I think I’m finally seeing what they go through every day. Finally getting a taste of the outrage that boils up inside you when see something so offensive, so insensitive, so disgustingly disrespectful you just can’t hold back your anger.
I mean look at this party. This “frat themed” party.
A keg?
Solo cups?
Late night pizza?
PBR?
Seriously, stereotype much? Can’t wait to see what Twitter has in store for their next party, maybe a sombrero-and-tequila “Border Patrol” party? A fried-chicken-and-watermelon “Pimps and Hos” party? A kimono-and-sake “Ninjas and Sluts” party? Absolutely disgusting, in 2015 we’re still dealing with bigotry like this and a complete lack of political correctness and cultural sensitivity awareness.
Clean it up Twitter. I could deal with having no women or minorities on their staff, I could deal with the Brogrammer culture, I could deal with the plummeting stocks and company valuations. But frat discrimination I cannot and will not stand for.
PS – I didn’t catch any follow-ups to how the actual party went down, I’m just assuming 2 interns were hazed to death and 3-4 women guests were force fed Xanax laced punch and date raped by callous monsters with rich parents? That’s what Gawker told me all frat parties are like these days.
