I'm Not Gonna Overreact About The Bruins' Lack Of Offense... Yet
What an infuriating hockey game. Bruins dominate for much of the game but couldn't get anything past Varlamov, next thing you know JG Pageau is batting in an unreal tip late in the 3rd and the Islanders win 1-0. The Bruins once again go a 3rd straight game without an even strength goal. 2nd straight loss. The B's are now 1-1-1 on the season.
Notes:
- Ondrej Kase was not available tonight, and he's been placed on IR (upper body). Jake DeBrusk actually slotted up to play with Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron, JD had his best game of the season but no dice.
- 3 games in and David Krejci has already played with a multitude of wingers. 2nd line looked better today with Jack Studnicka and Nick Ritchie with some chances. We live in a world where Nick Ritchie has been one of the better forwards on the team. The fuck?
- Bruins once again found themselves in the box quite a bit. While they've now gone 12 for 12 on the PK this year, you have to think that streak will eventually end if they keep taking undisciplined penalties.
- Matt Grzelcyk got tangled up with Jordan Eberle and skated off the ice. Bruce Cassidy had no updated on Grizz but if he's out a substantial amount of time that's a massive loss. Looks like he came down hard on his arm/shoulder.
- B's get shut out for the first time by Varlamov, still looking for their first 5v5 goal of the season. I thought Tuukka Rask was stellar, nothing he could do on that tip by Pageau. With 2 days in between games I'd go back to him on Thursday.
The B's were the better team tonight but nothing to show for it. Kind of a jumbled lineup, no offense being generated. 3 games into the season. Not gonna overreact yet, but this team can be a lot better. It's up to Bruce to figure something out to get these guys going. Offense has to get going somehow, someway. I know the B's are missing Pasta but this is inexcusable.
We're onto Philly.
