Whiny Atomic Clock Scientists Want To Shorten Time Because The Earth Is Moving Too Fast

NY Post

Nevertheless, Earth slows down for no one. In fact, according to global time officials, it’s speeding up, prompting suggestions to shorten the minute by a second, the Telegraph reported.

The fractional difference may not be felt on an individual scale, but the implications are critical for science and technology as satellite communication and navigation systems rely on timing consistent with the cosmos.

Scientists just like fucking with things for no reason huh? Me, me, me. It's all about them and attention. Now they want to shorten time. Something I truly didn't think was possible. The Earth is spinning too fast so we need to adjust. These impatient losers want a leap second deducted from the atomic clock so we can catch up. Rob Manfred wanted baseball games shortened so much he fucked around and became an atomic clock scientist to shorten the length of days on Earth. I can't have 3 inning games? Well now you all lose. Nothing will stop this man from ruining the sport he commissions, even if it means taking the down the world's population with him.

Now is it as drastic as this NY Post is alluding to?

As far as I can tell absolutely not. You want to talk click bait? What they wrote in that headline is just wildly incorrect and not happening.

From reading the article and other articles linked to it, there's no mention that the minute we've all grown to know is about to go from 60 seconds to 59. That would be fucking wild though. I'm talking number one story in the world. I'm pretty sure something that drastic would end the Earth as we know it. There's always absurd freak out when any changes happen. When MLB went from the D.L. to the I.L. because a few people were offended by the word 'disabled' I went into full panic mode. A month later I was saying I.L. like it had been part of my life the whole time. If they shrunk a minute from 60 seconds to 59 there would be full blown chaos. You can't just shorten time. A minute is 60 seconds and nothing else.

So what is happening? These nerds want to deduct a 'leap second' from the clock because the Earth is moving faster than it has in the last 50 years.

The fractional difference may not be felt on an individual scale, but the implications are critical for science and technology as satellite communication and navigation systems rely on timing consistent with the cosmos.

So yeah we likely wouldn't notice it, but it could cause some big issues. The last time a leap second was added we had crashes all over the world. Seems like something we should continue to fuck with.

In 2012, an added leap second caused server crashes across a number of internet sites, including Reddit, Yelp and LinkedIn, while also disrupting those who use Linux operating systems and software using Javascript.

Just bananas that behind our backs these leap seconds have been added like nobodies' business. If things are going on par with the rest of the world, this deduction of a second will result in the a cataclysmic event on Earth that opens up a portal to a dimension filled with monsters. Something like that last Cloverfield movie where the Earth disappears.

Can't wait!
