Paula Deen Tweeted Her Son In Brownface Because She Is A Fat Ol' White Racist Lady And She Should Just Own It

Yahoo – Two years after accusations of racism nearly tore down her empire, Paula Deen appears to have learned exactly nothing.

Tuesday morning, the deep-fried dogmatist posted a #TransformationTuesday photo on Twitter, featuring herself as I Love Lucy’s Lucy, her former producer Gordon Elliott, and her son Bobby Deen — in brownface — as Ricky. The tweet, which read “Lucyyyyyyy! You got a lot of esplainin’ to do! #Transformation Tuesday @BobbyDeen,” has since been deleted, but not before it was saved, well, everywhere. (For the record, the photo itself is not a new one: it’s actually from the 2011 Halloween episode of her Food Network show, Paula’s Best Dishes. Then again, it was no less racist then.)

In 2013, Deen lost nearly all of her business relationships after a former employee sued her claiming sexual and racial discrimination. In the suit, an employee claimed Deen had hired black waiters to dress like “slaves” for a plantation-themed wedding. During the court proceedings, Deen admitted to having used the n-word on multiple occasions.

So Paula Deen tweeted and almost instantaneously deleted this photo of herself, her son Bobby in brownface, and some other dude making a silly face that no article out there seems to be acknowledging so let’s ignore him. And I know I sometimes deservedly get the house liberal tag at Barstool so this may come as a surprise but I really don’t think Paula Deen should get in more trouble here. Not because it’s an old photo or because it’s not kinda fucked up (even if it’s not fucked up, it’s just a thing you don’t do now, use your brain) but moreso because OF COURSE PAULA DEEN IS GOING TO BE RACIST. She’s a big, fat, rich as fuck, almost 70-year-old lady from the South. If she weren’t more than 50% racist, it’d be an absolute shocker. I feel like I’ve mentioned this on a blog before but my grandmother is an almost 90-year-old Italian lady who’s sweet as hell, lived her whole life in the Bronx in the company of black people with black friends and members of her church, and is generally pretty well reasoned. Yet when she brought up the Real Housewives of Atlanta a few months back and started talking about how “She just can’t relate to those girls” and other things of that nature I was waiting for an n-bomb or at least someone being referred to as an eggplant come out of her mouth. More often than not, things are changing for the better now but if you’re able to collect social security, there should be some wiggle room for some stupid racism. That’s just how it was for them growing up and as much as people adapt over time, an old dog really doesn’t learn new tricks.

So yeah everyone’s going to beat up Paula Deen again now and maybe she has it coming. But maybe we just shouldn’t always expect everyone to be exactly as you’d like them to be and move the fuck on.
