Alex Smith Is A Fucking Genius And The Reason We Won Yesterday
At the end of the first half yesterday, Alex Smith took the ball and trotted to the sidelines. It might seem like a tiny, non-factor, but in reality it might have been the biggest play of the game. You see, the Washington football team, the Washington Football Team, was out of timeouts. So by the taking the ball with him, he confused the fuck out of the refs, who had no idea what happened.
So the refs are all out there scratching their asses, wondering where the ball went. But here's the thing- they should have already had the K ball, the special kicker's ball, on-hand and ready to go. So Alex actually was just trying to help them out!
Hysterical. In reality, the refs were a fucking mess all game, especially in the first half. I don't know who the head official was, but he looked to be about 150 years old and completely lost out there. Alex knew they wouldn't have the K-ball ready, so he jogged off the field with the regular ball. The thing is, the kicking team was ready to kick the field goal in time, but Alex made sure, just in case. It's not delay of game or anything like that in the rulebook. It's just Alex being extremely smart and using that high football IQ to his advantage.
Oh, and one more thing, every so often stop and think about the fact Alex Smith is doing what he's doing. Another great game from him yesterday. We never thought he'd play football again (or even walk again) and he's doing it at a high level, possibly taking our WFT to the playoffs. It's incredible. They better name the Comeback Player of the Year trophy after him, such a no-brainer.
