I Couldn't Possibly Be More Team Don Sweeney Right Now

 

 

 

 

Last Friday we ran into a big problem with the Bruins, Don Sweeney started dealing.

 

First he dealt potential superstar Dougie Hamilton for draft picks (a deal I maintain wasn’t THAT bad considering what happens if Dougie gets offer sheeted). Next came Milan Lucic to LA for a first, Colin Miller and Martin Jones (although we did swallow some of Milan’s contract). Jones was later traded to San Jose for a first rounder, essentially making it 2 1sts and Miller for a guy who needed a change of scenery and wouldn’t be here past the year. That was a good deal.

 

After that I called my dad, a season ticket holder, to update him on everything. He hadn’t heard about Dougie, nor had he head about Lucic (not a Twitter guy). I said he might want to consider dropping the tickets to send a message, or at least reach out and express his disapproval with the way the offseason had gone. When the Bs traded for Rinaldo we called each other simultaneously for a good, old fashioned Don Sweeney bitch fest.

 

Guess what? I’m a fucking idiot.

 

Everything changed yesterday. I now totally believe in this team. I believe in Sweeney’s process. I’m IN on it all.

 

To be fair, Sweeney wasn’t exactly upfront about the whole thing. He gave shit answers like “Yeah, I expected to get heat” after the draft, which is basically saying I knew I was gonna suck so I prepared myself for it. But, he did say that we weren’t rebuilding we were just reloading. And that’s what we’ve done. We do need help on D, probably another forward too. But this is already a team I’m all in on. In just less than a week Sweeney has turned this into a squad I can get behind. On Tuesday I was texting friends that I wouldn’t blame guys like Chara and Bergy if they forced their way out of town to go get another Cup, today I’m Don Sweeney’s Down2Ride main bitch and think we can be a force.

 

 

If we want to break it down to pros and cons, we can…

 

CON:

– Dougie – Didn’t tell everyone he was on the table, didn’t take the best deal available. But, still, not a horrible return. (I’ll stand by that forever. A first and 2 seconds isn’t horrible for Dougie).

 

– Rinaldo – Tbh I really don’t have a defense for this move.

 

– McQuaid – Love Quaider. Too much, too long.

 

 

PRO:

 

– Spooner – 2/1.9 is a steal that I love.

 

– Jimmy Hayes for Reilly Smith and Savard’s contract – Pretty much highway robbery? Hayes will bring a big body and 15-20 goals in exchange for Reilly’s absence and Savvie’s dead money. (sidenote: <3 you savvie)< p>

 

– Lucic – One year of an overpriced Milan Lucic has been moved for 2 first rounders and Colin Miller.

 

– Beleskey – Under 4 mil per is unreal. Biggest UFA forward on the market and got him for way less than expected. Some people were scared he’d get 7×7 deal so 5 for 19 is very, very incredible.

 

 

 

 

If I’m counting correctly, and I may not be because I’m an idiot, then that’s a 4-3 Pro-Con list. Sweeney’s hot! Yeah, on Friday I admit that I thought he was a moron destroying the team from the inside, but now? Bring me the Cup!!! (bring me a top 4 D man first)

 

I’m all in on Don Sweeney and all in on this Bruins team, and I won’t jump off for at least a year, Sweeney take the wheel. That’s official. I’m ready to get nuts, let’s get nuts.
