Khabib Moves To 29-0 On Fight Island In Dominating Fashion And Retires Post-Fight
Tonight, on Fight Island, Khabib proved that well, he was EXACTLY who we thought he was....
Khabib Nurmagomedov went out there and just walked Justin Gaethje down for the entirety of the two-round fight (keeping up a ridiculous pace), ate some massive shots that didn't seem to phase him AT ALL (like he was the fuckin Terminator), and then as soon as the fight got to the ground - Khabib put Gaethje to sleep with ease. I don't even think Gaethje wanted to go to sleep, he tried tapping and the ref missed it, but the result was all the same in the end.
Then, in his post-fight interview, Khabib took his gloves off and announced his retirement.
Shocking to some, and predictable to others, Khabib's retirement has been a talking point since his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, tragically passed away this Summer. He had expressed interest in getting to 30-0 at one point, but said that after this fight that he could just not go on without his father by his side, and that he promised his mother this would be it. All those that know him have already stated that they don't expect this to be your average "MMA retirement", and that he'll likely stay true to that word.
Khabib's relationship with his father was an extremely close one, and in his eyes, he owes everything to his father - so I can't say I'm surprised, but it is real a shame to see the sport lose him as a competitor. He will undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest of all time, and many from the sport (including McGregor) have fired off their well wishes already....
