Summer Jam At MetLife Seemed Like A Fun Time Besides All The Rioting And Tear Gas

ABC7 – New Jersey State Police blocking gates outside of a major hip-hop concert at MetLife Stadium had bottles thrown at them by angry people in the crowd who were trying to get inside – some without tickets – and they later used tear gas to try to disperse them, according to officials.

The chaos erupted at the Hot97 Summer Jam Concert, which was headlined by Kendrick Lamar, Trey Songz, Big Sean and Chris Brown.

The crowds became upset when the gates were closed and blocked off by police in riot gear.

People without tickets jumped the fence and were stopped by security as they approached the doors, prompting the confrontation with state police.

There were many outbursts of conflict as State Police tried to keep the stadium peaceful and concert goers grew increasingly frustrated and angry, especially those with legitimate tickets.

Hot97 has obviously been NYC’s #1 hip hop station for a long time and is no stranger to violence going on around it and, with Summer Jam being their biggest show of the year, wouldn’t you be kind of disappointed if there weren’t some insane violence going on? Like yeah I want to hear “King Kunta” as much as the next guy but seeing a concert live is all about the spectacle and I’m not sure you can get a bigger spectacle than people getting tear gassed because a stadium completely gave up on basic ticket taking etiquette. Going to Summer Jam and not seeing insane violence would be like going to a Phish show and not seeing burnouts and girls rubbing up on anything while wearing hippie skirts and floral headbands.

Also what kind of people go to a sold-out stadium without a ticket, think they’re going to somehow get in, then just decide to scale the walls like White Walkers on Game of Thrones? Pretty ballsy Plan B to get in I’d say.

At least Hot97 is all over it:

“PS Sorry for the riots but hey Trey Songz doing that ‘Loving You Tonight’ song made your panties as wet as the tear gas made your eyes right? Life is all about compromise.”
