The Bad Boys of the Columbia Marching Band are at it Again. They've Gotten Banned for 'Sexual Misconduct,' Among Other Offenses
Times change, but human nature doesn't. For as long as humans have stopped living nomadic existences, settled down and formed civilizations, there have always been groups of young toughs going around terrorizing the population. Viking hordes. Vandals. Barbarians. Outlaws. Bandits. Cattle rustlers. Brigands. Juvenile delinquents. Motorcycle gangs. Soccer hooligans. And today the mob of young hoods who are going around being a threat to all decent, civilized society is CUMB. The Columbia University Marching Band.
You may remember this post from Jack Mac, almost a year ago today, about how CUMB was being prohibited from attending all future sporting events for, among other things, playing loudly in the library the night before the Organic Chemistry final, in order to disrupt the smartest kids, lower test scores and then make it easier to grade everyone else on the curve.
Well, if you thought these ruffians would've learned their lesson, you've got another thing coming. If anything, they've only just been embolden to act even worse.
Source - Its board announced on Monday that after 116 years of performing it was disbanding, citing “a history riddled with offensive behavior.” …
[T]hat the band had long been rife with “sexual misconduct, assault, theft, racism and injury to individuals and the Columbia community as a whole.” …

Its announcement, first reported by the Columbia Daily Spectator, came after numerous postings on a Facebook page called Columbia Confessions, which included a range of complaints and accusations, including band members using a Native American war cry at a game, personal accounts from former band members of lewd behavior, binge drinking and sexual harassment at band gatherings and parties and sex involving band members who were too drunk to give their consent. …
But the Columbia University Band Alumni Association, made up of former band members, said in a statement that they “categorically reject the characterization of the band’s history made by the members who voted to dissolve the group.” …
The band, which billed itself as “The Cleverest Band in the World,” claimed to be the nation’s first college “scramble” or non-marching band.
Not so "clever" after all eh, CUMB?
I think I speak for all law-abiding Americans when I say good riddance. Everyone who understands campus life knows that the marching band is a den of sin. A decadent culture of immoral miscreants and ne'er-do-wells. Sodom and Gomorrah with tubas and hats with feathers on them. Those oboists know they can get any coed they want. The xylophone players know every letter athlete secretly wishes they could be them. Plus the administration looks the other way at all their misbehavior because they face pressure from the music department to not interfere and cost the school money and scholarships So these bandies abuse their power.
It's been going on for generations, at all levels. Believe me, I've witnessed it first hand. My No. 2 son was in band all through high school and those kids essentially ran the school. Administrators, teachers and students alike were terrified of them and what they could do, so they let them run roughshod over everyone and everything. It's time we do away with them, for the sake of keeping the peace on campuses across this great land. Disband the bands.
