Red Wings Fan Charged With Arson After She Tried To Light A Giant Tampa Bay Lightning Flag On Fire During Game 7 Last Night

(Source) A Detroit-area woman set fire to a huge Tampa Bay Lightning flag as it was passed over the sold-out crowd at Wednesday night’s playoff game at Amalie Arena.  Lena Sinishtaj, 35, of Sterling Heights, Michigan, was booked on a charge of first-degree arson of an occupied structure. She was being held without bond, according to Hillsborough County Jail records.

About 200 people were under the flag when Sinishtaj held a lit lighter to it, Tampa police said. She was able to cause a small burn to the flag, police said. According to jail records, Tampa police made the arrest at 7:45 p.m., just after the game began.  The Lightning defeated the Red Wings 2-0 in Game 7 of the first-round NHL playoff series. They now face the Montreal Canadiens in the next series that starts Friday night.

Listen I know we will often times take the side of the criminal just to have some fun with a story, I get that. But this is honest, this is real. If you can’t fuck with an opposing fan base in a Game 7 NHL Playoff game then there is no reason to be a sports fan anymore in America.  You see a woman trying to light a Tampa Bay Lightning flag on fire with 200 people underneath it as arson, I see it as a dedicated fan looking to give her team an edge before a win or go home playoff game. Not even going to make a “typical Detroit” joke here even though they are ripe for the picking. Nope, I stand with Lena Sinishtaj. Where did we go wrong as a country? Where did we get so off track that a person trying to burn a few opposing fans to death is all of a sudden a crime? Sad sad day.
