Dolphins Defensive Lineman Wants To Be An Uber Driver
NYDN – One NFL player’s drive to the Super Bowl goes through Uber. Miami Dolphins defensive tackle A.J. Francis just bought a new car and now wants to put it to work shuttling passengers around South Florida. The 6-foot-5, 330-pound NFLer told the Daily News that after being a user and fan of the crowd-sourced taxi app he applied to be a driver on Wednesday. “It would be a cool way to get some extra cash,” admitted Francis, who signed with Miami as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Maryland in 2013 and spent last season on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury. Pro athletes working part-time jobs during the offseason is as old as the games themselves. But in today’s billion-dollar business it’s a rare sight. “I’ve been using the app for two years,” he told the News. “And every driver I talk to says it really helps supplement their income.” Francis recently turned in his lease and purchased a muscular white Dodge Charger with black trim, something he envisions spinning around Fort Lauderdale in ferrying passengers up to four hours a day during the offseason. He’ll drive the car if the Dolphins let him. “People ask me why would you want to be an Uber driver if you play in the NFL,”Francis tweeted. “You know what’s better than NFL money? More money.”
How about AJ Francis doing his best impression of Timberlake from the Social Network? You know whats cooler than a million dollars? A billion dollars.” You know whats cooler than being a professional football player that makes a lot of money? Being a professional football player AND a professional Uber driver that makes even more money. Can’t say he’s wrong, man. No such thing as too much money and getting paid to drive around white people aint such a bad side gig.
So good for him. Nice to see some NFL guys having some foresight. That way when the bum ass Dolphins inevitably cut him he’ll end up on his feet. He’s keeping a level head about this whole football thing. Sounds like he’ll be one of the real good Uber drivers too. One of the guys who has bottles of water and gum and is ready to charge your phone for you. Actually follows the GPS and gets you where you need to go. Dunno about being a defensive tackle but AJ Francis sounds like he’s gonna be the best damn Uber driver of all time.
