MTV Is Bringing Back Celebrity Deathmatch
Hollywood Reporter - MTV2 is bringing back Celebrity Deathmatch for another round. Eight years after its six-season run came to an end, Celebrity Deathmatch creator Eric Fogel and Wasteland Entertainment are behind the new incarnation, with Chris McCarthy and Paul Ricci also on board as executive producers. The new version will again feature animated no-holds-barred fantasy fights between infamous figures from entertainment and pop culture and will be reimagined for a social media world and hourly Twitter wars. The original series ran for 75 episodes on MTV from 1998-2002 before it was canceled, only to be revived by MTV2 in 2005 as part of a Friday programming block that ultimately aired in 2006. The fifth season, produced by Cuppa Coffee Studios, drew 2.5 million total viewers to the network, becoming MTV2’s highest-rated season premiere ever before the series was canceled for a second time in 2007.
Great news, great show. Not sure I know how to find MTV2 on my TV, but if they end up going balls to the wall and making the reboot as over the top as they should, I’ll manage a way to find it. And that’s exactly what they need to do. No holds barred, just fucking as ridiculous and offensive as they can make it. Because otherwise, what’s even the point? It’s on MTV2. It’s a show pitting clay celebrities against one another until they die. No need to play nice. When they tried to bring it back before, there was no Twitter. Now every celeb is on Twitter. Shouldn’t be hard to get a reaction out of them and get this show tons of viewers. They need to hire the guy who did Martha Stewart’s jokes at the roast and other comedians like that to write it and just skewer them. Can’t wait to see these two guys again.
