Monday's Episode of Raw Was The Highest Rated Episode in 3 Years

Uproxx - According to a report from Variety, Monday’s post-WrestleMania 31 episode of Raw popped the show’s highest rating in almost three years.

According to Nielsen, an average audience of 5.4 million (including 2.4 million adults 18-49) watched from 8 to 11 p.m., making USA the No. 1 cable network during primetime in both categories. Week to week, “WWE Raw” was up by 27% in adults 18-49, 24% in adults 25-54 and 28% in total viewers.

The 5.4 million viewers is the largest for a night of USA’s “WWE Monday Night Raw” since the “Raw 1000? special in July 2012.

With its three-hour “WWE Raw,” USA also rose to No. 1 among cable networks in primetime in adults 18-49 (1.9) and was No. 1 on all of television from 8 to 11 p.m. in adults 18-34 (1.8), men 18-34 (2.5), men 18-49 (2.5) and men 25-54 (2.7).

Amazing what happens when you put out a good product. When a TV show is good, people watch. When a TV show is bad, people tune out. That’s why you see my WWE coverage is spotty. When the show sucks, I find other things to write about/watch on Monday nights. But when it’s at it’s best, like the Raw this last Monday night, you can’t help but enjoy it. Wrestlemania last Sunday was the best PPV WWE has put on in years. People were tweeting me that they were watching wrestling for the first time in years…and enjoying it. It definitely helps that the Raw after Mania is usually the best Raw of the year, but maybe this is the year they revert to making every Raw as good as possible. Like back in the day when Stone Cold and The Rock were kicking ass every Monday night and it was appointment television. We now have a young, heel champion. We have Brock Lesnar beating the shit out of people. We have a lot of young guys pushing out the older guys, trying to make a name for themselves. Once the product is fully in the hands of HHH and Vince takes a back seat, we for sure we see episodes like Monday on a weekly basis. It does suck they have to fill 3 hours instead of just 2 though. 3 hours can drag on and frankly, the writers simply haven’t been good enough to fill it. 2 hours would be non-stop action. We’ll see if this recent surge in popularity helps everyone involved realize they haven’t been living up to their full potential. If they can continue staying hot and pushing the boundaries and looking to the future, we might be in for something really special. There’s so much talent in WWE–shit, Daniel Bryan is in the midcard right now. It’s just a matter of them putting it all together. They did it well the last couple weeks. Hopefully it keeps up.
