Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez Released By WWE
Welp - that does it for the WWE career of Cain Velasquez!
You know, it really did feel like Vince McMahon impulsively signed Cain to what Dave Meltzer called a "MASSIVE" deal back in October after Cody Rhodes and All Elite Wrestling showed a little interest in the former UFC Heavyweight Champion following his wrestling debut in August. They had him come in to immediately challenge Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship in Saudi Arabia, meaning that title had to be taken off Kofi Kingston in the worst possible fashion imaginable for that to happen...
...and then Cain just tapped out to Brock in 2 minutes at the blood money show in a very forgettable match...
…and that was literally his entire WWE run.
Obviously none of that is to the fault of Velasquez - it falls on Vince's shoulders entirely, with maybe only Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar receiving the additional blame - but it is one of the more remarkable unremarkable runs in the history of the company, and that had to be acknowledged.
Hopefully when the world goes back to normal Cain finds work back in AAA where he seemed to be given some more freedom both in the ring and outside of it…
