Grand Rapids Griffins' Andreas Athanasiou Dances His Way To A Goal Of The Year Nominee

Every day I constantly hear that there’s not enough AHL coverage on the site. Believe me, I’m with you on that. So lucky for us, Red Wings’ prospect Andreas Athanasiou (say that 5 times fast) put the Charlotte Checkers’ defenseman on a leash and took him for a little walk. That was just about as pure of a toe drag as I’ve ever seen. You can see little glimmers of Ovechkin scattered throughout. That poor poor defenseman. The dude is just out there trying so hard to keep the dream going. Trying to do everything he possibly can to one day get that call up to play for the 26th place Carolina Hurricanes. But within the blink of an eye, he lost both his jockstrap and his dignity. One of those plays that really make you consider hanging them up. That’s just the Athanasiou Affect.
