Today In Sports History: "This Is Our Fucking City."
Man, what a moment.
I remember watching this ceremony and game and the feeling I had when Big Papi said that on live television. I don't really remember 9/11, so the Boston Marathon bombing was the first really awful terror attack I can recall in my life. So David Ortiz getting in front of a packed Fenway Park and saying what he did is right up there with the night President Obama announced we had killed Osama Bin Laden as the most proud I've felt as an American.
I'll always remember that pre-game ceremony. I think moments like that — obviously minus the tragic circumstances — where people can come together for something are what everybody misses so badly right now. Hopefully our communities will be able to gather together for baseball games and everything else we enjoy soon enough.
