The UFC Plans To Return On May 9th With A SUPERCARD

Despite this Saturday's UFC event being cancelled, and all events being postponed indefinitely as of last week, Dana White is persistent on the company reopening its doors and putting on events as soon as possible.

It seems May 9th is the next time he'll be able to do so - in another undisclosed location - but the state of Florida is already declaring the WWE an essential business, so you'd have to imagine they'll be able to get this done too.

Fights targeted include:

Tony Ferguson vs Justin Gaethje for the Interim UFC Lightweight Championship

Henry Cejudo (c) vs Dominick Cruz for the UFC Bantamweight Championship

Amanda Nunes (c) vs Felicia Spencer for the UFC Women's Featherweight Championship

Francis Ngannou vs Jairzinho Rozenstruik in the Heavyweight Division

Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone vs Anthony Pettis in the Welterweight Division

When you just look at that slate on paper and don't think about any of the bullshit surrounding it, it's a fucking FANTASTIC card. Badass fights from top to bottom. I wanna see every one of those fights right now.

HOWEVAH

Why are we still rushing into Tony Ferguson vs Justin Gaethje?! Shouldn't we be waiting for Khabib Nurmagomedov to be ready for Tony?! Even if we gotta wait til after Ramadan, and do the fight in November, is that not worth it?! We're waited five years! We can wait another five months!

I know the the first card back is supposed to be huge and all, but if you toss one more fight onto the lower end of that...it's still PPV worthy and doesn't potentially ruin the possibility of that fight happening!

Plus, Tony Ferguson's gonna cut to 155lbs twice in three weeks?! That ain't healthy at all!

As far as whether or not the event should go on - I don't know. I'm not the guy to answer that question. I don't know much more about the coronavirus now than I do when UFC 249 got cancelled in the first place. May 9th seems like a ways away in terms of how quickly the news on this virus is updating, but I dunno!

Does it seem insensitive to be so concerned about getting back to sports right now? Yeah, probably - we're not even close to flattening the curve, it seems - but if they're able to put this event on in a safe and controlled environment without anybody being put in serious medical danger, I'm all for it.

UPDATE: Here is the full planned card from Brett Okamoko...
