This Conspiracy Theory Connecting The Coronavirus And A Chinese Biotech Lab Is Straight Out Of Resident Evil

I’m not a big conspiracy theory guy, but this one really has me thinking today with all the shit that’s gone down over the last 48 hours. If you’re big into gaming Twitter like I am, I’m sure you heard it a month or so. But considering that most of you probably have not, allow me to blow your fucking mind.

We will probably never know the true origin of the coronavirus due to politics, media and 55-year-old Gregs on Facebook all spreading bullshit and rumors around the interweb (kinda like I’m doing right now). But there’s one thing we do know for sure: the outbreak started in China. Well in Shanghai, the biggest city in China, there is a company that specializes in molecular biology, microbiology, and a bunch of other “ology’s” that I didn’t pay attention to in college. Basically what you need to know is that they work on microbiological things like I don’t know, VIRUSES. 

This is their company logo that has circulated the internet for the last few months:

Do you notice anything about that logo? Anything familiar? I do. I’d recognize that logo anywhere; it’s the logo for the Umbrella Corporation from the video game franchise Resident Evil.

For those of you unfamiliar with the backstory of the Resident Evil franchise, allow me to inform you. The Umbrella Corporation is an organization that fronts as a pharmaceutical company when really they’re developing biochemical weapons to sell on the black market to the highest bidder. Well, during one of their experiments, a highly contagious virus somehow leaks out of the plant and rapidly spreads throughout the nearby cities until the government puts them all under quarantine but that doesn’t stop the virus from spreading all over the globe and causing worldwide panic and DOES ANY OF THIS SOUND FAMILIAR YET???

Oh but that’s only the tip of the iceberg, Neo. You ready to go even further down the rabbit hole? You know what “bao hu san” translates to in English? UMBRELLA. You know what the first city infected with the virus in Resident Evil is? Raccoon City.

Ok ok it’s not a perfect anagram; I dropped a C. But it's pretty fucking close. How about this: you know what IS an anagram for “Coronavirus”. Carnivorous. As in things that primarily feast on the flesh of animals. You know what feeds on the flesh of animals? ZOMBIES. AS IN WHAT EVERYONE INFECTED WITH THE T-VIRUS IN RESIDENT EVIL EVENTUALLY TURNS INTO; FLESH EATING ZOMBIES.

Weeks after this went viral the original poster came out and said that this was all a gag and that he made it all up as a joke, including the website since the then-new company’s official site has not launched yet. And you know what I say to that? Seems awful sketchyyyyyy. Like someone told him to say that. Like someone’s trying to cover something up. Is the zombie apocalypse starting right now and we’re all too blind to see it? If it is, you best believe us gamers are ready. How convenient of Capcom to be remaking the Resident Evil series right when we’re on the brink of a possible apocalypse...

All joking and conspiracies aside, the Resident Evil 3 Remake is coming out on April 3rd, 2020. I guarantee you it will be one of the best games this year, and I’m not being paid a cent to advertise that.
