Kanye West Fans Have No Idea Who Paul McCartney Is

 

Look I understand its pretty unforgivable to not know who Paul McCartney is. Especially if you’re tweeting about music. If you’re critiquing new songs and think Kanye is a genius and shit, you should probably know who Paul McCartney is. Saying Kanye is gonna make his career is pretty laughably ignorant.

But give me a break with the dramatics about how this reflects how bad the state of music is in 2015. All sorts of music sites are writing about this like its the death of American music. The Beatles performed 50 fucking years ago. You expect some kids dicking around on the internet with “bae” in their twitter name to know who he is? You expect some you new age Kanye West fans to know all about the classic rock of the 1960s? Seems a little weird to be this surprised that the younger generation doesnt know who a 72 year old man is. I mean I dont think I can tell you anything about Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin or the Grateful Dead. I know Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are in the Rolling Stones, but thats about it. I get that the Beatles are bigger than all those bands and obviously were revolutionary for rock and roll but the fact that the world still thinks in 2015 its automatic that everyone knows about them is annoying. It was half a century ago. You don’t expect kids to know about TV actors and movie stars from the 1960s do you? I get it. They’re young dumb idiots. Music was better in the olden days. “They dont make em like they used to.” In like 30 years I’ll be furious about kids who dont know who Biggie and 2pac were. But lets all acknowledge its ridiculous to expect everyone to bow down to the Beatles for the rest of eternity.
