Oh sweet. Another year of a Yankee player farewell tour. Just what the doctor ordered. Gifts, flowers, standing ovations at Fenway for Yankee players. Tom Werner cumming himself talking about how great Jeter is. The lead story on Sportscenter every day during the summer will be what weirdo gift a different team gave him. That play he made against the A’s in the playoffs on repeat on top of repeat. I can’t wait. Should be a blast.
Seriously I hate this shit. I hate guys who announce their retirement a year early. The biggest egomaniac move in the game. Just setting it up for a long ass farewell tour so everybody can suck his dick and talk about how great he is. That’s the ONLY motivation for announcing it now. Everybody always talks about how classy Jeter is. Well real class would just be to announce it at the end of the season and go on your merry way. Okay maybe I can understand announcing it with a month to go so Yankee fans can pay tribute, but don’t let Jeets fool you. He wants the glitz and glamour just as much as the next egomaniac does. Him and Arod are almost 2 peas in a pod.
PS – Anybody who doesn’t think Nomar in his prime was 10x the player Jeter was is a flat moron. I’ll give the career to Jeter, but when Nomar was at the top of his game before he started getting hurt all the time there was nobody better.
UPDATE – Guess where Jeter’s last regular season game will be? Fenway obviously. Remind me to take a vacation that weekend. Knowing the One Eyed Bandit he’ll probably name 2nd base after him or something.
