This New Year's Eve Picture Sums Up The Precise Reason Why The Celtics Are So Damn Good This Season
I don't know how I didn't see this picture a few days ago, but since the second it came across my desk this morning I have not been able to stop smiling. You may be asking yourself, how on earth have the Celtics been able to own the leagues
5th best offense
3rd best defense
2nd best net rating
2nd best point differential
3rd best record
2 seed in the Eastern Conference
Was it a change in coaching philosophy? Is it just a matter of players making leaps and having real individual improvement? Well one look at that picture tells you everything you need to know. This team loves each other. It's not some fake bullshit love that you can tell isn't real. This is deep, authentic love. The good stuff. The biggest issue that needed to be resolved after last season, their dogshit chemistry, has been fixed in ways we couldn't even imagine. Knowing that, is it at all surprising that this team suddenly looks like a legit contender after being nothing but underachieving assholes who hated one another last season? Those things feel related to me. As we learned, you can have all the talent in the world but if you don't have the right chemistry, it means nothing.
It's hard for me to choose a favorite part of this photo. There's Kemba, the leader, getting his drink on and is for sure fucked up and loving life. Then there's Romeo who is staying very much on brand and living life in the clouds. Robert Williams might be the coolest dude on this entire team. The two Jays are smiling in ways we did not see once last season. Tacko's face is fucking priceless. Can you even imagine this photo taking place with last year's roster? No chance in hell.
Remember, this isn't the first time we've seen something like this go down, and it was an early tell of what was about to happen. How can we forget the time Marcus Smart took everyone to see Terminator and they were all zooted out of their minds?
We should have known right then and there that we were in for a much better season. That these guys actually liked being around each other whether you were a star player or a second round rookie.
I don't know much, but I sure as shit know seeing stuff like this combined with the product on the court has me big time excited for 2020 and beyond.
