Tom Izzo Was So Pissed That A Player Didn't Get A Transfer Waiver To Play For MSU He Straight Up Quit A Group To Help The NCAA After Blasting Them
[Source] - A frustrated Izzo said Thursday that he was resigning from the NABC board of directors after nearly 18 years of service. He said he wanted to focus on his team and family, but he also blamed the NCAA for making what he called "arbitrary decisions" regarding waiver requests, including denying forward Joey Hauser's appeal to play this season.
"Joey did have a strong case, and I'm devastated," Izzo said.
We opened Pandora's box, and maybe it will never be shut," Izzo said
Hell yes! Finally Tom Izzo, finally I'm on your side for something here. I said it with the Jay Williams thing yesterday, the more we get big time names and faces of the game blasting the NCAA, the better chance we have at change.
Now, is this strictly because Izzo isn't getting a hell of a player that can help him win a national title? Absolutely. Let's not pretend it's anything different but you need to be selfish here. This is how you take down the NCAA and it's hilarious that Tom Izzo just straight up quit the NABC.
Here's the thing - Izzo is right. There is no rhyme or reason as to what the NCAA thinks when it comes to transfers. Look at some guys who get transfer waivers accepted - in football Justin Fields and Tate Martell transferred because they weren't getting playing time and got accepted waivers. There's the lineman at Virginia Tech who got denied because, well, just read Keith's blog:
We need to just let transfers happen. Remember the NCAA tells us they are 'student-athletes' well if I transfer as a student I don't have to sit out a year for anything. Why do we make a kid who transfers for whatever reason sit out? The answer most will give is 'it'll just turn into free agency then!' Again, who cares? Sure it could hurt low-majors, but this is about the players.
Either way, good for Tom Izzo for blasting the NCAA.
