B's Blow 3 Goal Lead But Brad Marchand Saves The Day With Game Winner, 5 Point Night vs. Pens
Dominik Kahun answered right away for the Penguins after Pastrnak’s goal. 3-1 Bruins.
Alex Galchenyuk in all alone and he beat Jaro Halak to cut the Bruins lead to 1. 3-2 Bruins. 2 goals in 4 minutes for the Pens and they absolutely flipped the ice in the 2nd.
Bryan Rust tied things up with 4 minutes to go in the 2nd off a great feed from Evgeni Malkin. Penguins put an absolute clinic in the 2nd, scoring 3 to tie it at 3.
John Marino with 2.6 seconds left put the Penguins up 4-3 in the 2nd. Out of the box and beats Jaro Halak five hole. Bruins allow 4 goals in the 2nd period and blow the lead. Unbelievable. Ugly ugly period for the B’s. Turnovers killed them.
Accurate representation of that 2nd period:
Patrice Bergeron ENG dagger. The Bruins were down 4-3 going into the 3rd and came out with the 6-4 win.
FINAL: Boston 6, Pittsburgh 4
Bruins news notes and quotes:
– Alright where do we start? Top line shines offensively again (Brad Marchand with his 2nd five point game of the season). But the Penguins’ speed gave the Bruins fits and nearly handed them their second loss of the season.
– Don’t let Jake DeBrusk get hot! He’s got 2 goals in as many games and is starting to heat up with David Krejci back in the line up.
– Brad Marchand extended his point streak to 13 games (10 goals, 18 assists, 28 points) thanks to his 5 point night (2G, 3A). Career best streak for him. What a game from BM63. Nearly turned the puck over but instead found Torey Krug for the game-tying goal. Won it with 2 minutes to go with a shot that had no business going in. Top line is just getting it done for the B’s. 2nd 5 point night of the season for Marchand.
– David Pastrnak extended his point streak to 12 games (with his apple on Brad Marchand’s goal, and his 14th of the year in the 2nd). He’s just been so fun to watch these last few games.
– Home cooking: The Boston Bruins have scored first in all 8 home games so far this season.
– Despite a solid first period the Bruins got destroyed in the second. Pittsburgh flipped the ice, they could’ve easily rolled over after Pasta made it 3-0. Instead they put 21 shots on Halak and came away with the lead by scoring 4 goals. Fucking disastrous period for the Bruins at the face-off dot, turning pucks over and just not being disciplined. Went on cruise control after being up 3-0.
“We didn’t play our best, we had some passengers.” – Bruce Cassidy postgame on NESN talking about how not everyone on the Bruins had their legs tonight.
– The Penguins’ speed gave them fits tonight, I’m sure Bruce Cassidy already has the video to show the team where they got beat.
– The Grzelcyk – Clifton pairing got absolutely eaten alive tonight. Wouldn’t be surprised if Kampfer goes in for Cliffy tomorrow night in Montreal.
– Brutal missed call late in the 2nd before the Penguins made it 4-3. Zdeno Chara got caught up high early in the 3rd as well that went uncalled.
– Cameron Hughes made his NHL debut tonight with David Backes out of the lineup (after collision with Sabourin). Had a quiet night with just 9:53 of ice time, only Brett Ritchie played less than him. He was unnoticeable which is sometimes a good thing.
– Charlie McAvoy had a nasty spill when he hit his head on the post after trying to stop a shorthanded chance late in the 3rd. Came up leaking. Bruce Cassidy thinks it’s just a cut for McAvoy (per Ty Anderson).
– Interesting night for Jaro Halak to say the least. Not his fault at all for those four consecutive Pens goals in the 2nd. He gave them a chance to win in the 3rd and that’s all you can ask for. 40 saves on 44 shots.
Too many turnovers and flat out no puck possession in the 2nd hampered the Bruins in the 2nd, but they were resilient in the 3rd. The Bruins are now 11-1-2 and will take on Atlantic Division rival Montreal Canadiens tomorrow night.
Oh and it’s apparently Seny SZN!
