Kevin Durant Basically Said Fuck Steph Curry While Listing His All Time Starting 5

When Kevin Durant is in the right setting, he's awesome to listen to, especially talking about basketball. I know he gets shit for being sensitive on Twitter and isn't the best talking to the media, but in relaxed settings like this he's great. So when he was asked to build his all time starting 5 you knew it was going to be an interesting answer, and obviously right off the bat you see one glaring omission.

Where the hell is Steph Curry?

On one hand, he has to roll with his best friend and new teammate Kyrie, so that probably plays a big role in that decision because make no mistake about it, Steph Curry is a better player than Kyrie Irving. I'm not even sure that's really debatable. There isn't a thing Kyrie does on the floor better than Steph outside of his handles and honestly Curry's handles are a little underrated. He's not a better defender, he's not a better passer, and he's sure as shit not the better shooter so I'm a little confused. Not sure how you can be "the perfect team" when you are leaving off better players but Durant is certainly entitled to his opinion.

I don't think Durant was intentionally throwing shade at Curry or anything like that, at least I want to give him the benefit of the doubt there. Unless he truly was bothered by the whole "GS is really Curry's team even though he's winning Finals MVPs" thing this was probably more about his relationship with Kyrie above anything else. Now not having Westbrook in there made sense, those dudes hate each other, but he could have just played Draymond at the 5 like we see in today's NBA and then had the Curry/Kyrie/Harden trio. That would have made a little more sense and would have been just as deadly.

What stinks is that Durant is out for the year so we won't get to see guys like Curry and Westbrook respond to something like this on the court. If there were ever a game where you could bank on both guys going nuts and talking a whole lot of shit (Westbrook especially) it would be those games against BKN. By the time we see Durant in 2020 nobody will even remember this and that's too bad.
