Trent Brown is Accused of Domestic Violence, Therefore He's 'a Former Patriot' to Sports Illustrated

As reported by Pro Football Talk, Trent Brown is being sued for domestic violence:

The lawsuit, filed Monday in a California civil court on behalf of Diorra Marzette-Sanders, makes various accusations against Brown, the most serious of which are that Brown “slapped the Plaintiff across the face leaving her mouth bloody and her face bruised,” that he has “bruised, bloodied and battered” her on multiple occasions, and that he threatened to “shoot yo ass in the f–king head” when she threatened at one point to leave with their son.

Those are horrifying accusations, obviously. This allegedly happened last June in Hawaii. Reportedly there was a police report filed. But for now it seems to be strictly in civil court and the NFL is supposedly looking into it. That’s all we know at this point. The only established facts are these:

Trent Brown is accused of physically harming the mother of his child.
Trent Brown is accused of putting her in fear for her life.
Trent Brown is 6-8, 380 lbs.
Trent Brown is strong as hell and could intimidate a Marine platoon.
Trent Brown plays for the Oakland Raiders.

About that last one, though. Unlike PFT, not every media outlet seems to clear on that concept.

Pardon us, Sports Illustrated? It’s not “Full Time Professional Oakland Raider Trent Brown Sued for DV,” it’s “Former Patriot”? If true, I feel horrible for the alleged victim and her child. But I fail to see how this in anyway involves the team he used to play for.

In fairness, I should note here that SI laid off half their staff last week and turned operations like these over to The Maven, which NPR calls a network of “freelancers and bloggers … a model that was based in part on unpaid contributors and meant job losses for the traditional newsroom journalists.” And based on what I’m seeing on this Trent Brown stories, those contributors working for nothing are overpaid.

And before you say “Well, this is SI’s Patriots news feed, so of course their going to put a Patriots spin on it,” let me stop you right there and do the work for you. Here’s the link SI’s Raiders page. If there’s a mention of it anywhere on there, I’ll be damned if I can find it:

I see plenty about Gabe Jackson being back to practice, how Jon Gruden is still the same old Jon Gruden and the Raiders are tied with Kansas City in the loss column. But Trent Brown choking his son’s mother in Hawaii? Apparently the Patriots own that particular nightmare. Lock, stock and two smoking barrels.

But wait. Brown was only with the Patriots for a season. He was drafted by San Francisco and spent three years there. Surely this story must be on the 49ers page? It’s not:

Nope. To these editors, Trent Brown is a “former Patriot” as long as he’s accused of doing vile, reprehensible shit. Trust me. I’ve been at this long enough to know that if the story was the polar opposite, if he’d done something good, the headline would be “Raiders/ Former Niners Tackle Trent Brown Rescues Kids from Orphanage Fire.” In that same way a news site will only include a politician’s party affiliation in a headline if they’re opposed to him and he’s in a scandal. It’s the oldest trick in the media game. “Whig Party Lawmaker Caught at House of Ill Repute with Dead Suspected Witch” or whatever. So welcome to the anti-Patriots jihad, staff at The Maven/Sports Illustrated. You’ve only been at this few days and you’ve already figured out how to smear and discredit the best franchise in all of sports. Looks like you’re going to fit right in. Congrats.

Call me paranoid, call me what you will. But this is yet another one of those times where I have to remind you that just because the Patriots and their fans are paranoid, doesn’t mean the world isn’t out to get us. I just wonder how many draft picks this will cost us.
