Birth Mom of the Abandoned, Adopted Ukranian with Dwarfism Shows Up to Say Her Daughter is Actually 16

A couple of weeks ago I posted about Kristine and Michael Barnett, the Indiana couple who adopted a girl named Natalia from the Ukraine who they thought was 10 years old, decided she was actually an adult “sociopath” with dwarfism who was scamming them, had her declared legally 22 in probate court, and then moved to Canada without her.

You know, just your typical American family. Well just when you thought the Barnetts were Reality-TV worthy, there’s more:

Source – The Ukrainian birth mother of ‘abandoned’ Natalia Barnett has been found by DailyMailTV, and she has sensationally denied claims her daughter is an adult ‘sociopath’ masquerading as a child in an emotional interview. …

The Barnetts say they are the true victims, however, alleging the cute ‘six-year-old’ they adopted in 2010 was actually a violent grown up pretending to be a child because of a severe psychiatric illness.

But in a dramatic intervention that threatens to derail the pair’s defense, biological mom Anna Volodymyrivna Gava has broken her silence to defend Natalia, after an exhaustive search by DailyMailTV to track her down.

‘I know exactly how old she is,’ Anna, 40, told DailyMailTV through a translator from her home in the southern Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv, near the Black Sea.

‘This girl is my daughter who was born 16 years ago.

‘Doctors told me to leave the baby: “Leave her, don’t ruin your life”, they said. Both them and my mom told me to leave her.’ …

Today, depending on whom you believe, Natalia is either a 30 year-old woman or a 16-year-old trapped in a legal limbo that prevents her from even attending high school.

Did I say “Reality TV-worthy”? Let’s change that to Sitcom-worthy. Because his this just the perfect ending of a Very Special Episode of “Modern Family” or something. Gloria is feeling all Empty Nester since Manny is off at college. She wants take in an adopted daughter from Eastern Europe. Jay is reluctant but she guilts him into it him by reminding him she let him adopt a dog. They start noticing their 10-year-old has a lot of adult personality traits. Jay gets suspicious and hires a old college buddy who’s a private investigator to look into her background. Gloria starts thinking they’re getting scammed but is too embarrassed because it’s all her fault, but she sneaks off to court to get the girl declared an adult. And then in the 27th minute, the girl’s real mom shows up to take her back to their former Eastern Bloc hellhole. There’s hugging and learning. Then in the epilogue, Phil shows up with his magic kit to entertain the girl, but she’s gone. So he wisecracks about about making the problem disappear while Jay tells him to get out. Roll credits.

By no means am I anti-adoption. I’ve got people in my life who’s lives were permanently made better by adopting or being adopted. I just think that like anything good, there’s someone out there up to no good and looking to exploit the system. So I’d never take anyone in unless they could prove to me they’re not a 22-year-old Ukrainian dwarf who’s running a long con on me. Sorry, Ukranian child, Korean toddler or Chinese baby, but I’ve got to look out for No. 1. I don’t care how you do it, but the burden of proof is on you. Like the old Russian saying goes, “Trust but verify.”

P.S. Nice doctors they’ve got over there. That’s a swell bedside manner for a new mom. If it makes Volodymyrivna Gava feel better, she can rest assured that all babies ruin your life. She’s getting hers back after these Barnett dumbasses had to do all the really difficult years. If I was her I’d call this a win.
