Adidas Calls James Harden The Greatest Scorer Ever In Their New Ad Clearly Forgetting That Michael Jordan Exists

For the most part, I like this new James Harden Adidas spot. It’ll probably trigger people who are anti-James Harden and the way he plays but there is no denying he is changing a game. However there’s a frame in that spot that seemed very familiar, this part right here

Where have we heard that before? Is this just a case of a brand hyping up their most important athlete? Nope, remember earlier this summer when Daryl Morey said this with a straight face?

I dunno, maybe part of it is the reasoning for this uses some fancy advanced metrics, but I’m of the belief that a guy who averaged 30 for his career and had 7 straight years of 30+ per game winning the scoring title in all 7 might be the better scorer at this point in time. Harden could one day get there, so far he’s had 2 years in a row over 30 and won the scoring title in both years, but he’s certainly not as efficient as Jordan was during that run. Then you factor in the rule changes and how Harden has been able to exploit getting to the line and there’s no denying that impacts things. Harden routinely lives with a FT rate of around 50-56%, Jordan’s career high was 45% and it was his rookie season. Sure drawing fouls is part of the game, but I’m going to lean in favor of the guy who got it done without leaning so heavily on FTs and threes.

Everyone knows James Harden is probably the most devastating isolation player in history, he does shit that is revolutionizing the sport there is no denying that, but he has a long way to go of sustaining this level of production before we go calling him the greatest scorer ever, and this is coming from a gigantic Harden guy in yours truly.

Maybe he’ll get there one day, especially if he has couple more seasons that looks like this
