Dez Bryant Trying To Make His Case That Steph Curry Should Rank Higher Than 10th All Time Is Bananas
Once you get to this point of the NBA calendar you’re going to start to see all sorts of player ranking lists. There’s a current player top 50, and recently we just saw an all time player top 50 list get put out. In my younger years I used to get really worked up over these rankings, but as I’ve aged I’ve realized they are mostly trash and it’s not worth the trouble. It was hard to avoid the all time list that came out yesterday, and as you can see Dez Bryant cares deeply about where Steph Curry is ranked. Personally, I think somewhere around 10 feels right for Curry, probably a little lower. I will give Dez credit, at least he shows his work as to why he thinks he should be a little higher, but if you use that same reasoning in looking at who 1-9 is, who is Steph jumping? In my opinion the top 5 are a lock, you can debate the order if you want but those 5 make sense. You want to talk about changing the game, well each of those 5 did it. That’s where I disagree with Dez, both Magic and Bird revolutionized the NBA. Then you have the most dominant player of his era and shit maybe ever in Shaq, and then two of the greatest winners in the history of the sport in Duncan in Russell. Maybe you want to argue that you could put him above Wilt, but again somewhere around 10-13 feels right.
Now obviously there are some issues the further down this list you go. David Robinson coming in over Olajuwon is a travesty and whoever came up with that should be arrested, and honestly as much as I hate his fucking guts Kobe at 14 is far too low as well. In fact, if we’re being honest he probably shouldn’t be behind Curry at all if we’re talking all time. Curry still has a long career ahead of him and if he keeps up his current pace he’s going to shoot up this list, but he’s really only had a 5 year stretch of this version of Steph. I do wonder though, if there’s a certain reason why maybe Curry ranked so high and Kobe so low…
Oh, that’s right
