Josh McCown And His Beautiful Mind Remembers All 37 Players He's Throw A Touchdown Pass To In The NFL
There’s just something about the city of Philadelphia and backup quarterbacks. Even before Nick Foles came back around to win the first Super Bowl in franchise history, this city loves a backup QB. There’s probably some deep psychological reasoning behind that. Like maybe we, as a city, feel as if we’re a backup quarterback and we just travel from team to team backing up starters like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, maybe even Boston. Maybe subconsciously, we see a lot of ourselves in these guys who come to Philly to be the backup for the Eagles. Or maybe it’s just that Nick Foles had a massive hog and Jeff Garcia was a goddamn baller. Could be either or. The point of the story, though, is that Josh McCown is well on his way to entering that list of backup quarterbacks who get treated like gods in Philly. All it took was about 4 or 5 plays during a drive while Carson was in concussion protocol and now an article on The Athletic where he tries to remember the 37 guys who he has thrown a touchdown pass to in his career for me to be all the way in on declaring Josh McCown being our baby.
I highly recommend checking out the full article from Bo Wulf here, but I’ll drop a few highlights here as an appetizer.
The first one was easy. You never forget your first.
But considering he’s played on 8 teams before getting to Philly, he had to start breaking them down team by team. That’s when things started to get a little tricky, but once he remembers a guy he threw a touchdown to? This beautiful mind remembers everything about the play.
Some of the guys he’s thrown a TD to are so random that I bet those guys themselves sometimes forget they were in the NFL, but somehow Josh McCown comes out and still remembers every detail about the man’s life. Like the legend that is Troy Hambrick.
Wow. A Dallas Cowboy who turns out to be a morally bankrupt human? I’m shocked Jerry would ever allow such a thing to happen under his watch.
Either way, Josh McCown has been in the league forever. He’s 40-years-old but he still remembers even the most obscure of plays that have ever happened in NFL history. And not for nothing, but Nate Sudfeld was also able to remember every player he’s thrown a TD pass to so far in his career.
Birds by 50.
