Cuncel Da Sanchez - Once And For All

It was literally years in the making. Tim Tebow couldn’t get the job done. Greg McElroy couldn’t get the job done. Mark Sanchez was like a cat with 9 lives. Legitimately putting up the worst numbers in the league for 2 straight seasons. After the Thanksgiving Day Massacre last year, it was time for Mark to Get The Fuck Off My Team. But nobody stepped up to actually replace him. Which, considering he was literally the least effective quarterback in the league, is pretty shocking.

But with Geno’s performance and late game heroics (read: drew a penalty), and Sanchez’s injured shoulder, the day has finally arrived. Geno wasn’t even great. He was mediocre at best. Flat out bad at some points. But in the second half, Geno showed the one thing Sanchez hasn’t for the past 2 years – and thats some sort of poise and control when the game gets hectic. No wobbly, up-for-grabs interceptions when the pressure is on. No Buttfumbles when scrambling. Geno withstood the pressure, protected the ball, made some big throws when he needed to, made some positive gains with his feet. And of course a W at the end. Thats all its gonna take. It was clear all through the preseason the organization was going to give literally anybody the opportunity to take the reins from Mark. Geno didn’t earn it then, but he earned it Week 1.

Now obviously I’m not getting ahead of myself thinking Geno is the answer. But I’m just saying the door should finally be closed on the Mark Sanchez era here. The rest of his time in New York should be spent on the sidelines in his headband. There’s no telling how long Geno may last, but at least we’re moving in the right direction. Week 1 Super Bowl, in the books!
