Noel Gallagher Wants To Start A Petition To Get The Foo Fighters To Split Up
For a cover of Queen’s ‘Under Pressure’ at the Foo Fighters sold-out headlining set at this year’s Reading + Leeds Festival last week, frontman Dave Grohl journeyed back behind the kit, and drummer Taylor Hawkins came out to the front of the stage to sing the tune. As the transition was happening, Taylor pointed out the fact that he’d been playing with a photo of Manchester’s own Liam and Noel Gallagher on the head of his kickdrum…
…and that he was just as hungry for an Oasis reunion as the rest of us. Hawkins and Grohl joked about getting a petition together for the brothers to reunite, and went into the Queen classic.
It seems a former member of Oasis caught wind of this “petition” – and it’s none other than Noel himself.
At his show in San Diego last night, Noel brought up the request from the Foos, and on the tenth anniversary of the Oasis’ breakup, suggested the same for them when he announced his intentions to start a petition to get them to split up. Absolutely fucking hilarious. He then dedicates his newest single, ‘This Is The Place’, to “Uncle Dave”, and that’s that.
The Foo Fighters have been super vocal about their over the top Oasis fandom for many years now, and even performed with a possibly intoxicated Liam Gallagher years ago at CalJam, and Noel respects Nirvana, but I’m not too sure he finds any enjoyment in the Foo Fighters themselves…
Oh well. Can’t win em all. I’d still sign that first petition, though!
P.S. Happy 25th Birthday to Oasis’ debut record, ‘Definitely Maybe’…I’m pretty sure Nate will have more on that album and what makes this such a monumental anniversary week for the band later, but I couldn’t blog a Noel story without mentioning that today.
Double P.S. Can we just acknowledge the fact that the Foo Fighters are still at the TOP of their game in 2019?! At the TOP! There are absolutely no signs of deterioration after Reading + Leeds 2019. I don’t know how it’s possible, but I fucking love to see it.
Triple P.S. Foo Fighters Lyla!
