"We've Already Traded Patty" - Gregg Popovich Definitely Considered This Move After Patty Mills Destroyed Team USA

You may think Pop is joking in this clip, but there is for sure a part of him that considered making this move. Perhaps he even put some feeler calls out there. After the embarrassment that Patty Mills caused Popovich and Team USA for losing for the first time in a billion years, he’ll forever have this blemish on this Team USA coaching resume. Now sure he could have stopped dicking around with lineups instead of watching Mills torch his entire team

but he didn’t. If I’m Patty Mills I hear this clip and I’m definitely hitting up my agent immediately just to make sure nothing went down. You never know with Pop and while you may think he would enjoy watching one of his Spurs players play well, that’s exactly the moment you realize he just traded you to play in Memphis. Remember, Pop doesn’t usually send guys to places they would want to go. Things may have worked out for Kawhi in Toronto but at the time that was basically Siberia.

So while these jokes are all fun and games now, it sort of loses its luster when you know….you don’t win. Of course we couldn’t have a Pop media session without him being a bit of a dick, so it was nice to see him very much remain on brand

People hate Pop for this schtick, say that it’s played out and really he’s just a dick for the sake of being a dick. I am not one of those people, I can’t get enough of grumpy Pop, but like I said it’s much easier to stomach when you aren’t the laughingstock of the international basketball world. Need to come out and beat Canada by 50 tomorrow so we can get back to enjoying snarky Pop.
