Josh Gordon Likely To Be Suspended For A Year After Testing Positive For Alcohol, Anyone Who Defends Josh Gordon At This Point Is A Moron.
(Source) Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon faces yet another NFL suspension. PFT’s Mike Florio has confirmed Gordon is in line for a one-year ban for a violation of the NFL’s substance-abuse policy. A source tells Florio that Gordon tested positive for alcohol. Moreover, a source tells Florio that Gordon’s suspension looks to be a “done deal,” with a reversal of the ban not expected. As Florio notes, Gordon is subject to alcohol testing because of his July 2014 DWI arrest.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported Gordon was set to draw a one-year ban from the league. If Gordon’s suspension sticks, it’s a major setback for a wonderfully talented player who has already lost 13 games to league- and team-levied suspensions in his NFL career. Furthermore, the news of Gordon’s potential ban throws his future with the Browns into doubt. At season’s end, coach Mike Pettine said the receiver was “squarely at a crossroads with us.” The 23-year-old Gordon was suspended for the first 10 games of the 2014 regular season for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy. After returning to the lineup, he did not recapture his best form, catching just 24 passes for 303 yards in five games. Making matters worse, Gordon was suspended for the Browns’ season finale at Baltimore for a violation of team rules.
So this came down yesterday, perfect timing before Super Bowl week really starts and the NFL wants to talk solely about how awesome they are. Anyway, after it happened I read online that people were saying how this is bullshit, all he did was have a beer, how that shouldn’t get him a year suspension etc etc. Bullshit. I don’t give a fuck if it was a sip of wine at Church, Josh Gordon has to be the dumbest fucking person on planet earth. He has had what feels like a million chances now. It’s pretty simple too, on one side is weed and booze and on the other is playing in the NFL and making obscene amounts of money. His stupidity is a slap in everyone’s face. What would you give up to make millions of dollars and play football for a living? Because I know I would have zero problem never drinking a beer until after I retire. Not even a question. You have 5-10 years to maximize your NFL career, you have the rest of your life to drink and smoke as much as you want. Roger Goodell and the NFL deserve a lot of shit for a lot of different reasons but this isn’t one of them. You want to say the rules are too strict? Ok, but the rules are the rules and Josh Gordon isn’t able to follow them for more than a month at a time. If I were a Browns fan I wouldn’t even want him back on my team, it’s so obvious he doesn’t give a shit.
Now with all that said, obviously if Josh Gordon needs help I truly hope he finds it, but the point is the rules are the rules, blaming the NFL for Josh Gordon’s suspension is actually enabling Josh Gordon and probably further inhibiting his ability to get proper help.
