Justice Is Served! Katy Perry's Theft Of Her Song "Dark Horse" Costs $2.78 Million (And It Shoulda Been More)

TDB - A federal jury decided Thursday that Katy Perry and her collaborators must pay $2.78 million to the writers of a Christian rap song for copying elements of “Joyful Noise” in her own hit song, “Dark Horse.” After over a week of testimony in federal court, the nine-member jury decided that Perry should pay rapper Marcus Gray $550,000, while her record company, Capitol Records, owes the majority of the $2.78 million total. Perry’s five co-writers were also given penalties, including about $60,000 for Dr. Luke and over $250,000 for Max Martin. The jury decided that the riff in question was responsible for 22.5 percent of the success of “Dark Horse,” and handed out the damages accordingly.

$2.78 million and she should consider herself LUCKY! If I was on that jury I wouldn’t have left the room unless there was jail time involved in the sentencing. She straight up stole from a humble, hard working Christian rapper. A man who only wanted to spread the good gospel of God and Jesus and the holy bible. You’re telling me spitting in the face of anyone who has ever stepped foot in a church or opened up a holy bible or watched the classic film Christmas with the Kranks is only worth $2.78 million? Blasphemy. Katy and her team of sinners made off like bandits here. The fact she’s not doing 5-10 in gen pop is the greatest tragedy these eyes have ever seen. And that Dr. Luke guy? Shouldn’t he have been given the death penalty 14 times over by now? How much longer do we need to tolerate him for Pete’s sake?

I’m glad this was a good start and the jury will be on the right side of history, but I hope we don’t look back on this landmark case in 10 years and wonder why they went so easy on her. My keyboard to god’s ears, as they say.

Now let’s get her for killing that nun.
